The Queensland Finch Society is based in Brisbane, Australia but has members worldwide who subscribe to receive the monthly magazine "Finch News" and participate in other Society activities. Members in south-east Queensland are encouraged to attend general meetings which are normally held on the first Friday of every month at 8pm (doors open 7pm) at Morningside School of Arts Hall, Cnr Wynnum & Thynne Roads, Morningside, Brisbane. They feature a Guest Speaker, a Sales Table stocked with seed and a wide range of breeding aids, birds for sale and the club Library. Non-members and guests are also encouraged to attend. QFS also stages out of Brisbane meetings, aviary visits, bird sales, auctions, bird shows and other events at various times during the year.
Our July meeting will feature Nic Susnjara as main presenter. Nic moved to SE Qld a few years ago and aims eventually to re-establish his finch collection. However, he is a professional horticulturist and in this meeting he will provide a detailed discussion about plants for your aviary, plants that go with birds, plants that provide specific needs for your birds . and much more. Nic will be bringing a number of plants to support his talk and you might go home with some too.
The meeting will commence with a short talk from Jane Purcell, a new member of the QFS Committee, and someone with an unusual approach to finch keeping. Jane doesn t have room for outdoor aviaries, but instead trains her birds to utilise the interior of her home. Her Training Finches at Home will be an intriguing short presentation. So come along to learn all about plants from Nic and see how Jane trains her finches.

November 19 2011 saw an excellent turnout of finch enthusiasts for the QFS meeting in Tamworth. Members and friends from as far as Sydney heard three excellent talks, enjoyed a finch ID competition
and tried hard to win in the raffle.
