The Queensland Finch Society is based in Brisbane, Australia but has members worldwide who subscribe to receive the monthly magazine "Finch News" and participate in other Society activities. Members in south-east Queensland are encouraged to attend general meetings which are normally held on the first Friday of every month at 8pm (doors open 7pm) at Morningside School of Arts Hall, Cnr Wynnum & Thynne Roads, Morningside, Brisbane. They feature a Guest Speaker, a Sales Table stocked with seed and a wide range of breeding aids, birds for sale and the club Library. Non-members and guests are also encouraged to attend. QFS also stages out of Brisbane meetings, aviary visits, bird sales, auctions, bird shows and other events at various times during the year.
Renowned aviculturist and conservationist, Mike Fidler, will be our speaker for November and we are very pleased to have him back some ten years after he last spoke at QFS. Mike established a worldwide reputation for his attention to detail and his constant experimenting for a better way as a Gouldian breeder in England, before moving to Australia to pursue his passion for the conservation of the wild Gouldian. He, and his wife Elisabeth, established the Save the Gouldian Fund and they have been the driving force behind an extensive research and on-ground conservation program. At his magnificent breeding complex in the Watagan range north of Sydney, Mike seeks to understand the key to breeding success for all the species he works with and in this talk he will focus on the importance of conditioning your finches for successful breeding. This is not to be missed as Mike will provide an information packed evening of value to all aviculturists.
In addition we will commence with a short 10 minute presentation from Elisabeth Fidler who will talk on her Passion for Chooks . Elisabeth is an outstanding breeder of rare poultry and very successfully so as she regularly wins championships at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Her talk will outline why this is a fascinating pastime with enlarged quail!
