The Queensland Finch Society is based in Brisbane, Australia but has members worldwide who subscribe to receive the monthly magazine "Finch News" and participate in other Society activities. Members in south-east Queensland are encouraged to attend general meetings which are normally held on the first Friday of every month at 8pm (doors open 7pm) at Morningside School of Arts Hall, Cnr Wynnum & Thynne Roads, Morningside, Brisbane. They feature a Guest Speaker, a Sales Table stocked with seed and a wide range of breeding aids, birds for sale and the club Library. Non-members and guests are also encouraged to attend. QFS also stages out of Brisbane meetings, aviary visits, bird sales, auctions, bird shows and other events at various times during the year.
Cheryl Mares is an experienced and excellent photographer who in recent years has focussed on birds and finches in particular. She has undertaken some in depth studies of finch breeding and behaviour, but always with a camera handy. Her interest is to document in photos and through detailed notes all aspects of breeding for all the Australian grassfinches a task which is about 80% complete. Our February meeting will feature her presentation on the Pictorella Munia, a species that some find challenging and which has been described as enigmatic by others. Her talk will feature a number of details of housing, feeding and management which can convert this often difficult species into a more regular breeder.
Our meeting will commence with a Short Talk from Peter Holley on Keeping Wrens. Peter will whet your interest in these great softbills.

QFS Out of Brisbane Meetings
November 19 2011 saw an excellent turnout of finch enthusiasts for the QFS meeting in Tamworth. Members and friends from as far as Sydney heard three excellent talks, enjoyed a finch ID competition
and tried hard to win in the raffle.
